James Madison
James Madison is referred to as the 'Father of the Constitution' for having such a large impact on the contribution of the document. He would work with congress throughout the years until his presidential inauguration on March 4, 1809. He was more for the Republican (or Jeffersonian).
Non-Intercourse Act of 1809Since the Embargo Act of 1807 failed, a new act had to be made in order for the country to keep it's distance from the conflicts in Europe. The Non-Intercourse Act made it so that the US wouldn't trade with Great Britain or France.
Merchants would often break this law by trading out at sea. They would also go to neutral land to trade. |
